anneste walkabout: Kaudulla National Park - 180 Elefanten // 180 elefanti // 180 elephants

Haben wir wirklich 180 Elefanten gesehen? Vielleicht waren es auch "nur" 170, vielleicht aber auch über 200! Fakt ist, als wir die Safari gebucht haben, haben wir gehofft, mindestens einen Dickhäuter zu sehen. Passt also 😂!

Und weil wir von dem, was wir im Kaudulla National Park gesehen haben, so beeindruckt sind, gibt es hier anstatt viel Text, vor allem viele Fotos und Videos. Und das ging weit über die Elefanten hinaus! Eine ganz ganz tolle Landschaft in dramatischem Licht, da das Wetter unsicher war und eine unglaubliche Vielfalt an anderen Tieren neben den eigentlichen grauen Protagonisten. Darunter: unterschiedlichste Adler und Affen, Krokodile, Warane, ein Chamäleon, viele viele Flamingos, Ibise, Pfauen, Nashornvögel, Eisvögel, Bienenfresser, Papageien, Störche, Füchse, eine Manguste und ein riesiges Wespennest!

Wir waren mit einem tollen Guide in einem Safarijeep unterwegs, also mit offenem Dach und offenen Seiten und kamen ganz nah an viele Tiere heran. Auf der Heimfahrt in der Dämmerung sogar an weitere Elefanten am Straßenrand bis auf ein paar Meter - Gänsehaut!!!

Abbiamo davvero visto 180 elefanti? Forse erano "solo" 170, o forse più di 200! Il fatto è che, quando abbiamo prenotato il safari, speravamo di vedere almeno un pachiderma. Quindi ci sta 😂!

E poiché siamo rimasti così colpiti da ciò che abbiamo visto nel Kaudulla National Park, invece di un sacco di testo, ecco un sacco di foto e video. E non soltanto di elefanti! Un paesaggio davvero grandioso con una luce drammatica, visto che il tempo era incerto, e un'incredibile varietà di altri animali oltre ai bestioni protagonisti. Tra questi: una grande varietà di aquile e scimmie, coccodrilli, varani, un camaleonte, molti fenicotteri, ibis, pavoni, buceri, martin pescatori, gruccioni, pappagalli, cicogne, volpi, una mangusta e un enorme nido di vespe!

Abbiamo viaggiato con un'ottima guida in una jeep da safari, quindi con il tetto e le fiancate aperte, e siamo riusciti ad avvicinarci tanto a molti animali. Sulla via del ritorno, all'imbrunire, siamo persino arrivati a pochi metri da altri elefanti sul ciglio della strada - da pelle d'oca!!!!

Did we really see 180 elephants? Maybe there were "only" 170, or maybe over 200! The fact is, when we booked the safari, we hoped to see at least one pachyderm. So it's ok 😂!

And because we are so impressed by what we saw in Kaudulla National Park, instead of a lot of text, a lot of photos and videos. That tour went far beyond elephants! A really great landscape in dramatic light, as the weather was uncertain, and an incredible variety of other animals besides the actual massive protagonists. Among them: a wide variety of eagles and monkeys, crocodiles, monitor lizards, a chameleon, many many flamingos, ibises, peacocks, hornbills, kingfishers, bee-eaters, parrots, storks, foxes, a mongoose and a huge wasp nest!

We travelled with a great guide in a safari jeep, so with the roof and sides open, and got very close to many animals. On the way home at dusk, we even got within a few metres of more elephants on the side of the road - goosebumps!!!!
